Meet Sylwia.
My name is Sylwia McAvoy (formerly SĊonka), I am a Polish national who has been living and working in Northern Ireland since 2000.
Sylwia moved from Poland to Belfast in 2000. Initially working for a Presbyterian church, she went on to study at Union Theological College.
Sylwia was employed as a minority ethnic worker in Antrim on a unique partnership project between Antrim Borough Council, PSNI and Antrim Citizen‘s Advice Bureau. During this time she trained as a CAB Advisor, provided advice to the Polish and other minority communities, worked towards prevention of hate crime and inclusion of minority ethnics in the community as well as providing support for individual victims of crime.
Within Antrim Borough Council Sylwia worked towards several cultural events, took part in information and training events and networked within community groups.
